BERLİN- – By signing the Commitment to Human Rights in Tourism ITB Berlin has underlined its responsibility as the world’s leading travel trade show. Myanmar has set out a master plan to cope with the anticipated future influx of visitors.

ITB Berlin intensifies its involvement in human rights and tourism

ITB Berlin has declared its commitment to taking part in the Round Table on Human Rights and Tourism. The show also intends to encourage tour operators to sign the Commitment to Human Rights in Tourism which has been prepared by the participants in the Round Table. On Friday at the ITB CSR Day, during the ITB Berlin Convention, Rika Jean-François, CSR appointee of ITB Berlin, signed a corresponding undertaking: “As a travel trade show we take our responsibility for respecting human rights in tourism very seriously. We welcome the Commitment to Human Rights in Tourism and will work towards its implementation.“

A master plan for Myanmar

Tourism in Myanmar is still in its infancy. Nevertheless, increasing numbers of holidaymakers and business travellers are discovering this country, located between China and India, which only opened its borders three years ago. Last year, in order to cope with the rising number of visitors, a master plan was laid down for 2020. It formulates six strategic objectives and 25 concrete recommendations and areas for implementation. Tourism minister Htay Aung summarised these efforts in one sentence: “The Myanmar Tourism Master Plan is our roadmap for the future of sustainable tourism.”

New survey examining online customer reviews presented at the ITB Berlin Convention 2014

The investigation carried out by Roland Conrady, academic director of the ITB Berlin Convention and professor at Worms Technical College together with his students for ITB Berlin 2014 reveals that everyone – travellers, platform operators and hoteliers – have become much more professional in their dealings with online hotel reviews.
